Cowboy Magic's Detangler and Shine

There is one product in our barn that we all fight over and though in this hot Alabama heat you'd think it would be bug spray, its the Cowboy Magic Detangler and Shine. We use it daily, we use it at shows, we use it pretty much like there is an endless supply and everyone seems a little lost when there is none in the grooming area.

Up till doing this review and moving to my new barn I was pretty set in my grooming ways and my routine has rarely changed since I showed back when I was a youth. Ed our official cowboy and reining trainer and signing on to do this Cowboy Magic feature pretty much completely tore down my entire routine when it comes to horse's hair care. Ed firmly believes in not brushing your horse's tail... ever! I can't even tell you how that completely changes my perspective on grooming and my first response other than just pure shock was how on earth do you keep a tail knot free and properly groomed without ever picking up a comb? Well his only answer to that was Cowboy Magic Detangler and Shine.

I've been using Cowboy Magic Detangler and Shine every single time I groom a horse around the barn. A small nickle sized portion of Detangler and Shine will coat and keep the tangles out of a well maintained tail but if you have a larger problem you may need to use a little more. Even the worst knots will come out with very little effort. I apply it with the palms of my hands running the detangler through the hair with my fingers like they were combs. If I come to a knot I just stop and work on it for a second and keep going. If you miss some knots or you have a braided in mess you can apply the detangler and leave it alone and usually by the next morning they will work them out themselves. I wish I had taken a picture but Monkey, the resident reining queen, had a pretty well knotted braid in her tail and I didn't even bother attempting to get it out, I just applied some Cowboy Magic Detangler and Shine and by the next morning it was worked out to the point that you could barely even tell her tail was a matted mess the night before. That alone sold me and I've been using it myself daily since.

I asked a good friend of mine to try out Cowboy Detangler and  Shine on her walking horse Tazz who has a fairly long mane and if left in the pasture it tends to knot into big dread locks. (She wants me to tell you guys that she purposely let his mane get out of control for this test!)

Pretty impressive for just a few minutes of work and no washing/conditioning involved. I kind of feel a little guilty that we made Tazz live with that ratty mane for a little while. Dewana says she loves the Cowboy Magic so much she went right out the next day after doing these photos and bought the big bottle. I can't say I blame her I can't even tell you how many of the small tubes we have gone through since I started these reviews. It's usually the first thing everyone reaches for right before they ride!
